Benoit J. Gosselin, MD, FRCSC, FACS
What is your fondest memory from your 25 years working at Dartmouth-Hitchcock?
The first is the birth of my twin daughters here at DHMC, where my wife and I were offered excellent care by an amazing team of providers.
The second is the expansion of our section of Otolaryngology. With the uniqueness of the lifestyle here in the Upper Valley and the association with the Geisel School of Medicine, we have been fortunate to attract a group of individuals whose passion and dedication is to provide the best care possible to our patients. I feel privileged to be part of this team, and as a teacher to my team.
What inspires you?
My desire to provide the knowledge and empowerment to my patients so they are successful in confronting their illness and get better. The students and residents I have had the opportunity to teach are inspiring on a daily basis, due to their curiosity and thirst to learn.
What do you like best about your department?
Teamwork is the focus of my daily work, and what allows my daily interactions to be productive. The sense of collegiality and mutual respect our department has for each other makes my longer days pass faster. We all have to be focused on our tasks.
However, I feel the next best thing to solving a problem is finding some humor in it. Through humor, you can soften some of the worst blows that life delivers. And once you find laughter, no matter how painful your situation might be, you can survive it.
How has COVID-19 affected your work?
COVID-19 has resulted in profound changes in our lives. To remain positive, I focus on what I can control in my life: a positive attitude, respect a limit to my news and social media exposure, relaxation, as well as to provide warmth and comforting social support to my family, friends and co-workers.
