Melissa D. Garland, BSN, RN, CHPN
Unit Nurse Manager
Jack Byrne Center
What is your fondest memory from your 25 years working at Dartmouth-Hitchcock?
The memories I treasure most consist of the people I have had the pleasure of getting to know over the past 25 years—patients, families and team members who become like family. I am grateful to have had so many wonderful people touch my life.
What about your job inspires you?
Being a registered nurse is a gift. I have been inspired and influenced by many moments in my career. I am proud of the work we do. My 23 years on 4 West, Inpatient Surgery were some of the most amazing times in my career. I learned so much and worked with many wonderful professionals that it is difficult to describe the impact those moments have had on my life.
What do you like best about your department?
Being part of the inaugural team at the Jack Byrne Center has been incredible. The space at the center is wonderful. There is such attention to detail in the design and layout.
Working with other organizations in the community to care for patients with life-limiting illness is special. I am surrounded by a team of professionals who are dedicated to making a difference for the patients and families we care for. It is such a privilege to be part of this journey.
