What is your fondest memory from your 25 years working at Dartmouth-Hitchcock?
The memories that stand out the most are those spent caring for inspiring patients and working with wonderful staff. I have taken care of amazing patients from all walks of life who face chronic illness with such grace and resilience. They never give up hope, and they have taught me so much over my career. I especially enjoy caring for our cystic fibrosis patients and feel like we often become their second family during their lengthy hospital stays. It has been an incredible experience to see some of these patients get lung transplants and never have to be re-admitted.
What about your job inspires you?
I love teaching and training new staff. Over the years, I have had the privilege of precepting new graduate nurses, experienced nurses, travelers, LNA students and even a few medical students. I am inspired by them all to be the best nurse I can be and to show them the difference we can make in someone's life with the smallest gesture of kindness.
What do you like best about your department?
I work with wonderful people. We are teammates and support each other through good and bad times. Some of my closest friendships blossomed on 1 East. I have had some amazing supervisors, managers and co-workers over the past 25 years and each taught me important lessons that I will carry with me throughout my life.
1 East can be a challenging place to work, but I am proud to have called it my work home for the past 25 years!
