Basic Preceptor

Learn about the concepts and skills necessary for onboarding new employees. Explore adult learning styles, communication, giving feedback, and new employee preferences.

Course objectives

Successful completion of this course will increase your knowledge and ability to:

  • Create a collaborative work environment for each new colleague
  • Utilize critical thinking techniques by breaking down a problem through inquiry and questioning
  • Identify the importance of questioning to patient safety
  • Describe how to give feedback using the PAUSE model
  • Develop a successful coaching plan with SMART goals

Audience

  • Any established staff person (employed more than 3 months) who will be mentoring new employees
  • Staff considering assisting in the orientation of new staff
  • Staff in leadership positions
  • Role model staff
  • Anyone interested in learning more about communication in the work setting

This course may also be helpful in your personal life.

Important note: If you are a RN, LPN, LNA, paramedic or case manager in Lebanon this Basic Preceptor course does not qualify for the Preceptor stipend. You must attend the Preceptor Excellence Program in order to qualify.

Conflict Resolution

Assess your DiSC behavior style and learn ways to recognize and work effectively with other styles. Gain insights into your work behavior style and its impact on team relationships. You’ll explore the 4 styles (D, i, S, and C). Learn how to knowledge and appreciate differences in your team mates.
